Tirupati
is considered as one of
the richest temples in
the world with devotees
spread all over the world.
The town of Tirupati exists
because of the Venkateshwara
Temple. Located about
150 kms away from Chennai,
it well connected from
Chennai by rail and road.
Tirupati has its own airport
and is well connected
with the major cities
of the country. This pilgrim
town is in the Chitoor
district of Andhra Pradesh
and the Venkateshwara
temple is on the Tirumala
hills which comprises
of seven peaks.
Apart
from the famous Venkateshwara
Temple other places like
the Sri Varahaswami Temple,
Sri Bedi Anjaneyaswami
Temple, Sri Anjaneyaswami
Temple, Sri Padmavathi
Ammavari Temple, Tiruchanoor,
Sri Govindarajaswami Temple,
Tirupati attract a lot
of pilgrims.
Besides
temples there are other
places like a naturally
arched rock formation
dating back to several
ages called the Silathoranam.
It is of great importance
to the geologists. The
Tirupati Tirumal Devasom
Board also nurses a beautiful
flower garden covering
hundreds of acres. A variety
of flowers, especially
those needed for the pooja
like roses, lotuses, tulsi
etc are grown in plenty
and is self sufficient
to meet the demands of
the all the temples in
and around Tirumala. Several
Tanks and ponds exist
within the garden for
a perennial supply of
water.
Tirupati
holds a multitude of cultural
festivals and the Aasthana
Mandapam or the Sadas
Hall which is near the
temple stages a host of
these events. A sort of
museum mainly displaying
articles of puja, carvings
in stone and wood and
other articles of traditional
art and architecture form
part of Sri Venkateswara
Dhyana Vignan Mandiram.
This is a very informative
place for tourists and
pilgrims. The other things
that Tirupati is famous
for is its red wooden
toys red wooden toys,
copper and brass idols.
